Robert’s is small, family-run, and full of other people’s shoes. That is roughly the whole story — but here is the longer version.
The people
Robert has been repairing shoes and leather for about thirty years. The shop was in Silver Lake before it was here — long-time customers still write about “their days in Silverlake” — and it has been at 3371 Glendale Blvd in Atwater Village since.
Arman, Robert’s son, is on the bench with him. Marc is usually the one at the counter who looks at what you’ve brought in and tells you what it needs. Between the three of them, this is a family business in the way people mean when they say it — a reviewer put it as “you’re not just walking into a shoe repair shop; you’re walking into a family business where they genuinely treat you like family.”
What’s in the room
A sole stitcher. A finishing wheel — one review calls it “that giant wheel that shaves down soles” — an industrial walking-foot machine for leather, a wall of shoe cream in every color made, racks of laces, and shelves of finished work waiting to be collected.
That inventory is the whole argument for bringing something here rather than posting it off: the repair happens in the same room you handed it over in, by the person who quoted it.
What we won’t do
Take money for a repair that isn’t worth doing. It comes up in review after review, from different people, in almost the same words — Robert says no to work when a pair is past saving, and regularly does the five-minute fixes for nothing. A zip slider replaced in three minutes and waved off. A pair of ripped rubber clogs glued for free alongside a paid job. Sunglasses missing a screw, handed back without a bill.
It is also worth saying plainly: not every review of this shop is five stars. The ones that aren’t are on Yelp and Google where anyone can read them, and nothing on this site has been quoted out of context to hide them.

How a repair actually goes.

You bring it in
No appointment, no booking form. Walk in during opening hours with the item in your hand. If it's a bag or a jacket, bring any hardware you still have — a zipper pull, a buckle, the screw that fell out.

It gets looked at, at the counter
Robert or Marc looks at it in front of you and tells you what it needs. This is also where you get told if it isn't worth doing — one reviewer's favorite thing about the shop is that he shakes his head and says no when a pair is beyond saving.

You get a price and a date
Both before you leave it. If you need it by a specific day, say so — you'll get a straight answer about whether that's possible rather than a maybe.

The work happens here
Nothing is sent out. The sole stitcher, the finishing wheel, the industrial machines and the leather are all in the same room as your shoes.

You pick it up
Cash, card or Zelle. Card carries a processing fee, which is why regulars bring cash. And do come back for it — the shop's own photo of the pickup rack is captioned 'Don't forget to pick up your shoes once they are finished.'
