Boot resoling and rebuilds

Work boots, Docs, Red Wings, riding boots and platforms, taken apart and rebuilt properly.

Resoled boots, finished at Robert's Shoe Repair
Resoled boots, finished at Robert's Shoe Repair

A boot is worth rebuilding in a way a shoe often isn't — the uppers on a decent pair outlast three or four soles. The old sole and midsole come off, the welt is checked and re-stitched where it has opened, and a new Vibram or lug sole goes on with a new midsole underneath it if the old one has compressed.

Platform boots get their own treatment: the platform is rebuilt and re-bonded rather than just glued back on, which is why reviewers with goth platforms and Docs keep naming this shop. Branded hardware — a Doc Martens zipper, a maker's heel stamp — gets kept wherever it can be kept.

What the job covers

  • Vibram, commando and lug resoles
  • Midsole rebuilds on compressed or delaminated boots
  • Platform soles re-bonded and rebuilt
  • Heel blocks rebuilt and re-stacked
  • Welt stitching repaired
  • Boot zippers repaired or replaced, original pulls kept

Bring it in if…

  • The tread is smooth or the lugs are gone
  • The sole is peeling away from the upper
  • The boot has gone soft underfoot and you feel every stone
  • The platform has separated

Miracle workers. Brought some of my wife's boots in for heel repair / midsole rebuild, had them done in reasonable time with exceptional results. Writing now about my Redwing Resole… amazing. Turnaround was quick, price for each repair respectively was fair and justified. I got a vibram Resole and just look at em! In 6 months when I need another Resole I'll be back. The amount of heels and other shoes all over the store lets you know everybody wants to get their stuff fixed in here. Great shop, awesome people.

Masters. Simply the best. Been a loyal fan since their days in Silverlake. They have saved so many pairs of boots for me. I am eternally grateful for them.

The outcome was perfect: both two leather fanny packs with their notoriously failing zippers as well as some boots were perfectly repaired. The service was not particularly fast but since I had no timeframe, it didn't matter to me. What counts was the professionalism, the skills, and the nice service.

They did a great job. I brought in a pair of boots I got at a thrift shop 10 years ago. The soles had come completely unglued from the upper, the heel was worn down, and some of the stitching was coming undone. He replaced the base of the heel, removed the unglued sole to replace it with a much more sturdy and non-slip option, and restitched the leather. They were ready almost a full week before estimated. They look and feel great! I will likely get 10+ more years of wear out of these now.

Robert repaired a few of my platform goth boots with amazing expertise and detail! Even the non-leather ones which are cheaper and the platform soles had come off. I don't have a before picture but he repaired a doc marten zipper that you can't tell the difference from the original, keeping their branded zipper and re-soling my prized everyday boots.

Super efficient, professional, and hands-down, great craftsmanship. I came in here for my doc martins where the sole was completely coming apart and they fixed it within 30 minutes and offered a really reasonable rate. Would definitely be coming back here.

Boot Resoling & Rebuilds — questions

Do you use real Vibram?

Yes — a reviewer describes getting a Vibram resole on a pair of Red Wings and posting the photo of it.

How long do boot rebuilds take?

Longer than a shoe. One customer's Red Wings took about four weeks left over the holidays, and he notes other shops had taken six or more. Simpler boot work has been done in 30 minutes at the counter.
