Shoe dyeing and color restoration

Faded leather brought back, or a color changed on purpose.

Before: three sandals with soles worn down to the board
Before: three sandals with soles worn down to the board

Leather fades unevenly — the flex points go first, then the whole shoe reads dull. Re-dyeing strips the old finish, lays the color back in, and seals it so it doesn't rub off on a sock or a car seat.

Color matching is the harder half of this job, and it is where the shop is repeatedly singled out: a customer needed gold leather matched to a Nicholas Kirkwood sandal strap and got a match good enough to wear for twelve hours without noticing it.

What the job covers

  • Re-dyeing faded or sun-bleached leather
  • Color change on shoes, bags and jackets
  • Color matching to an existing panel or strap
  • Scuff and stain concealment
  • Edge paint on soles and bag edges
  • Sealing so the color doesn't transfer

Bring it in if…

  • The leather has faded at the creases
  • A stain has gone into the leather and won't clean out
  • You want black instead of brown
  • A repair panel needs to match the rest

Why this page exists: Yelp verified service 'Shoe dying'; reviews from Caden Felton (black dye), Lauren C. (gold leather color match), Pasquale L. (oil stain hidden).

Totally revitalized my girlfriend's pretty worn down shoes — fixing up the bottom and the black dye came out great! Also gave some love to my scuffed leather boots and well conditioned them. Know it was a lot of work and it got me what we needed before a trip where we're proudly wearing the shoes. Thank you Robert and his son!

Quality work, quick and family style service. What more could you ask for? Robert was exceptional in helping me repair two brand name shoes that are not on the market anymore. I was not optimistic at first, but he basically restored them and made them look like day 1. Robert also went above and beyond to address all my concerns and I can now confidently say this is who I will recommend all my friends and family to for all our shoe and leather repair needs.

Robert did a tremendous job on my favorite heels. I've had these cognac leather heels for over a decade and unfortunately they were deteriorating due to dry rot. Thankfully, the exterior leather parts were still in good condition, so Robert took the time and care to restore and replace the damaged parts with even better materials and fully reconstruct my heels. I'm very happy with the results and I'm looking forward to wearing them in the future.

Robert's Shoe Repair is absolutely amazing! They brought my Gucci shoes back to life — they honestly look as good as new. The attention to detail, craftsmanship, and friendliness went far beyond what I expected. You're not just walking into a shoe repair shop; you're walking into a family business where they genuinely treat you like family. It's rare to find this level of quality and personal service anymore. They've earned a customer for life.

My partner and I have brought our shoes to Robert for repair and to be brought back to life for many years. Replacing heels and soles and other tasks. Once I brought in a very nice pair of dress shoes that I love. I had spilled oil on one of the shoes making the pair not wearable when I needed to dress up. Robert was able to almost completely hide the damage to the stained shoe. I am an attorney and am now able to wear the shoes with a suit when I have to make an appearance in court. Excellent service, fair prices and very nice family!

I have a pair of shoes that I have had for years. I love them so much that I have worn them into the ground. They were basically falling apart. Robert's Shoe Repair made them like new! I am so happy that I will get to wear my favorite shoes for many years to come.

Shoe Dyeing & Color Restoration — questions

Can you hide a stain rather than re-dye the whole shoe?

Often. A customer spilled oil on one shoe of a pair of dress shoes; the damage was almost completely hidden and the pair went back into court rotation.
