Orthopedic modifications and lifts

Lifts, wedges, flares and shoes opened out to take a prescribed orthotic.

A repaired shoe, ready for a final polish
A repaired shoe, ready for a final polish

Modifying a shoe for a foot rather than the other way round: an even lift built into the sole and heel for a leg-length difference, a medial or lateral wedge to change how the foot strikes, a flare for stability, or a rocker profile to take load off the forefoot.

Shoes can also be opened out — the insole lifted and the footbed depth increased — so a prescribed orthotic sits at the right height instead of pushing your foot out of the shoe. Bring the orthotic with the shoes.

What the job covers

  • Even sole and heel lifts, built up in layers
  • Medial and lateral wedges
  • Sole flares for stability
  • Rocker sole profiles
  • Footbeds opened out to take an orthotic
  • Heel height evened between a pair

Bring it in if…

  • A prescription calls for a lift on one side
  • Your orthotic doesn't fit in your shoes
  • You need the same modification you had on your last pair
  • One leg is measurably shorter than the other

I wish I could give more than five stars! Robert and his team saved me, my sanity and my feet — I bought a gorgeous pair of Nicholas Kirkwood gold leather slingback sandals for a wedding but the ankle straps were too small and tight to be comfortable. They found a perfect color match and extended the strap with perfectly matching gold leather so I could walk and dance more comfortably. The shoes are impeccably perfect! I wore them 12+ hours comfortably and danced for hours with no worries about the strap thanks to their handiwork.

Every shoe shop that I went to said that there was nothing they could do when one of my new shoes started hurting my feet. Robert took both shoes and worked on them for a few days. When I returned, they fit perfectly! Thanks for the care and consideration that you exhibited so that I was able to wear them to a funeral in Las Vegas. It was a challenging time and you made it a little better.

Orthopedic Modifications — questions

Do you work from a prescription?

Bring it, along with the shoes and any orthotic you already wear. Robert builds to what the prescription specifies — he does not diagnose, and anything clinical stays with your podiatrist.
